A simple act of kindness can transform an invisible boy into a friend…

Meet Brian, the invisible boy. Nobody in class ever seems to notice him or think to include him in their group, game, or birthday party . . . until, that is, a new kid comes to class.

When Justin, the new boy, arrives, Brian is the first to make him feel welcome. And when Brian and Justin team up to work on a class project together, Brian finds a way to shine.

Any parent, teacher, or counsellor looking for material that sensitively addresses the needs of quieter children will find The Invisible Boy a valuable and important resource. Includes a discussion guide and resources for further reading.

Review:

Being Friendship Day, I couldn’t find a better book to recommend for our young readers than The Invisible Boy! This beautiful story values the art of making friends inclusively. Brian in this story is one of those silent children that every class would have, who often gets ignored due to their introverted character. The story talks from the perspective of such children, emphasizing on the emotions they go through when they are seldom recognized in a group. Eventually, through the kind act of one of his classmates, Brian gradually begins to get noticed.

The story also throws light on recognising unspoken means of communication, like Art. Brian was a boy with few words, however he expressed his mind through his lovely drawings which initially went unnoticed by his friends and teacher.

The illustrations by Patrice Barton have brilliantly depicted the emotions, and the journey Brian goes through. The book is a must read for children, parents and teachers. Happy Reading!
